ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lisa Larrabee Fine Artist

Lisa Larrabee is most recognized for her unique figurative paintings that stylistically blur the boundaries between figures and their environment.  Her paintings visually convey the intangible connection between people, nature and the subconscious.  Lisa creates artwork that invites us to slow down and contemplate our relationship to others and to the world around us.

Her unique process begins with an expressive and textured surface.  Lisa uses oil paint, cold wax medium and mixed media with improvised tools, rollers and pallet knives before refining her image with traditional oil painting methods.  The effect feels both timeless and contemporary.  Specific details come into focus while others are left to be completed in the mind of the viewer.  The result is ethereal poetry.

Lisa earned her Bachelor of Fine Art from the Kansas City Art Institute, followed by her Master of Education from Northern Arizona University. Working as a fine artist and educator is an excellent combination.  She is able to work actively in her studio and share what she learns in the process with her students.  Lisa's paintings and portrait commissions are in private collections across the country, and she has participated in a variety of national and international juried exhibitions.
