I was originally drawn to this tree because of it’s elegant lines.  I also liked the repetition of the more distant tree echoing the movement of the first. However, my painting process focused on the spaces between the lines.  The title speaks to both the delicate interlacing pattern of the branches and the tranquility evoked.

Musical terms can characterize entire movements, moods and transitions.  Perdendosi means fading into nothing; dying away. Although the final tree has faded by comparison, it is still lovely in its own right.

Living in a desert makes a backyard full of pine trees feel like an oasis.  I spend a lot of time studying the light and color transitions as the sun sets through these beautiful trees. It is stunning to see.  I intend to keep trying to capture it.

This scene was captured from on a train just outside of Sedona.  I enjoyed the strong diagonal shadows that cut across the painting.  I also played up the vibrant blue of the river by accentuating the complimentary oranges in the golden field.

October in Durango, Colorado is stunning. There is so much that I wanted capture and take with me. Painting allows me to take the memories home. This landscape is all about the auburn color of the trees against the cool mountains.

It was the strong contrasting pattern of the rows that originally caught my attention in this Durango field.  However, upon further study, I was intrigued by the subtle pinkish hue that was visible in the soft light colored trees.

With a focus on color, transitions, and light, my landscapes follow principles of tonalism. By pairing the golden sky against the cool blue-violet mountains the edge glows with the optical contrast. The distant trees and open field act as a solid restful foundation.

Early one January morning, I was mesmerized by the hazy blue Catalina mountains.  The sun was just cresting over the Rincon Mountains, highlighting the very top of the Catalinas in a vibrant warm pink.

Most sunset images focus on the sky.  In this instance, I was most attracted by the color transitions of the light hitting the land.  To emphasize this, I lowered the composition to include only a sliver of the glowing sky.
