  • AUBREY

    Oil  6" x 6"

    Private Commission

    artist Lisa Larrabee

I had the pleasure of painting this sweet little girl to accompany an earlier portrait of her big brother.  I used the same process to stylistically match the previous painting of Wyatt.  Creating this painting was such a peaceful experience.

It was such a pleasure to paint this vivacious little girl to accompany the prior commission, "Loved", of her mother and brother.  It was important to capture some of the colors and energy of being outdoors in the sunshine without calling too much attention to the playground.

Although I prefer to gather my own references, I was thrilled to paint from such a beautiful image.  The trick was to paint the skin tones as if painting from life without the heightened contrast or altered colors of the photograph.

After painting portraits of my own newborn boys, I realized just how deeply personal a baby portrait can be.  Add to that, this portrait was for a very dear friend.  It was a pleasure to paint such a sweet child knowing that the true gift would be preserving that moment of time indefinitely.

    NEW DAY

    Oil  9" x 9"

    artist Lisa Larrabee

    RICHESON 75 INTERNATIONAL Finalist

This is a painting of my sons.  I painted these portraits life-size from a picture of them taken the day they were born.  I wanted to subtly stylize their hospital blankets and caps while painting their tiny hands and faces with tender realism.  Every time I look at this painting, my memory transports me right back to that incredible new day when everything changed.

    JACKLYN

    Oil  24" x 24"  artist Lisa Larrabee

I took this picture of my niece, Jacklyn, and my dog Charlie on a summer vacation. I love how both the body language, and her expression, imply that there is someone approaching. Being aware of a presence off to the side I feel is compelling. It brings the viewer into the scene.

  • ELISE

    Oil  6" x 6"

    Private Commission

    artist Lisa Larrabee

This is certainly my tiniest portrait commission yet.  The painting was inspired by my own life-size portraits of my twins when they were born.  This is a rare case where I did not take the reference photo.  Mikael Wiley is a trained photographer and proud daddy of Elise.  I simply adjusted the composition to allow the viewer to feel as though they were gazing down on her themselves.

Lauren and Erica were fantastic to work with.  By the end of our session together, they had relaxed into this pose and were carrying on a conversation as if I were not even there.

I couldn’t resist the lively expression that came across her face when she looked up at her mom.  Although her mother was out of view, I felt the connection between them as though I were painting a double portrait.
